How we estimate
Every range on this page comes from one cost model, built from published 2026 GTA mover pricing (onthemove1.ca, vrmoving.ca citing HomeStars, moovy.ca, professionamover.ca). Nothing is invented: the calculator adds the ranges below, nothing more.
Base move ranges — local GTA, licensed/insured movers, pre-HST
| Home size | Range |
| Studio | $400–$800 |
| 1-bedroom | $400–$800 |
| 2-bedroom | $700–$1,500 |
| 3-bedroom | $1,000–$2,000 |
| 4+ bedroom | $1,500–$2,750 |
Add-on ranges — pre-HST
| Add-on | Range |
| Full packing service | $150–$400 |
| Stairs or walk-up, no elevator | $50–$150 |
| Long carry (truck can't park close) | $50–$150 |
Tax: quoted moving prices in Ontario usually exclude HST. This calculator always shows both — the pre-HST range and the range with 13% Ontario HST.
Timing: June–September and the 28th–31st are the busiest periods. We deliberately do not multiply prices for them — no reliable source publishes an exact peak-season multiplier, so we show booking guidance ("book early") instead of invented numbers.
Scope: local GTA moves only. Long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance — get custom quotes.

Moving cost FAQ
What affects the cost of a local GTA move?
The biggest factor is home size — bigger homes need a bigger crew and more truck time. Add-ons that raise the price include full packing service ($150–$400), stairs or walk-ups with no elevator ($50–$150), and long carries when the truck can't park close ($50–$150). Timing matters too: June–September and the 28th–31st of any month are the busiest periods, so book early. All figures are pre-HST; add 13% Ontario HST.
Do GTA movers charge by the hour?
Many quote local moves by the hour with a minimum number of hours, while others quote a flat rate for the job. The ranges on this page reflect typical total costs for licensed, insured movers. Always ask whether a quote is hourly or flat-rate — and whether packing materials, HST, or travel time are included — before you compare quotes.
What hidden fees should I watch for on moving day?
Common extras people miss: 13% HST added on top of the quoted price, charges for packing materials, surcharges for stairs or walk-ups, long-carry fees when the truck can't park close, and travel time to and from the job site. A written quote that names each of these is a good sign; a vague one-line quote is a red flag.
When should I book a mover in Toronto?
As early as you can — especially for June through September (peak season) and for the 28th–31st of any month, the busiest moving days. The best-rated movers book out fastest during those periods, so don't wait until your lease is about to end.
Is it cheaper to hire movers or do it myself?
DIY can be cheaper for a studio or 1-bedroom if you have help and a short distance, but the savings shrink once you count truck rental, fuel, mileage, packing supplies, and the time and injury risk involved. For 2-bedroom and larger homes, the price gap between DIY and professional movers narrows considerably. Use this calculator to see the professional-move range, then price out the DIY option honestly before deciding.
Does this calculator cover long-distance moves?
No. This calculator covers local GTA moves only. Long-distance moves are priced by weight and distance, which varies far too much for a simple range — get custom written quotes for those.
